A Crusade for a Safer Tomorrow

Many of us believe that if our judicial system were different, this violent, senseless, murder may never have been committed. We would like to see several things happen, in order to prevent this type of tragedy from ever happening again.

We believe that a person convicted of any violent crime, especially manslaughter and murder, should receive some type of counseling or rehabilitation during and after their incarceration.

We also believe in more strict and lengthy sentences, with no time off for good behavior. They should serve their complete sentence. If they do the crime, they should do the time... How can someone be set free into public, even for good behavior, after they have taken someone’s life?

Once an offender is released into society from any type of violent crime, they should not be set free unsupervised. They should have some type of counseling or treatment, and supervision. Parole should be made mandatory, regardless of time served.

Often, criminals get passed from one area of the system to another, with not any single one person watching over the offender from the time of the arrest, to after their release. Who is ultimately responsible for making sure the offender has received the psychiatric care, training, and help they need to become better individuals? Someone should be held accountable.

We would like to see a law passed that would make it mandatory for the offenders of violent crimes to be on a registry once released. This registry should be available to the public. Our idea is similar to Megan’s Law. This way, the public has the resources to become aware of who is in their community, and ultimately having a better chance at protecting themselves.

How can honest, hardworking, loving and productive citizens be safe from these criminals, if our judicial system does not do all they can to help these individuals from letting them repeat their crimes. Our families and loved ones cannot be safe, unless our government does all they can to rehabilitate these individuals and look out for the well being and best interest of the public. The offenders need help and the citizens need protection.

There are many things within our government and judicial system that need to be addressed. These are just a few, but they would make a big difference.
