Dear Senator Stillman, Senator McDonald, Representative Lawlor and the Honorable Members of the Judiciary Committee,

I am writing this letter in support of Bill # 708 which will provide for a Violent Offenders Registry in the State of Connecticut.

I believe that the Violent Offender Registry will serve Connecticut residents as natural extension of the Sexual Offender Registry. The information contained on the registry should consist of the person's name, photograph, current address, the offense and the statutory reference for which the individual was convicted, and whether the convicted person is in compliance with registration requirements.
While the information in the Violent Offender Registry is already public record, SB 708 makes that information more readily available to citizens who can use the data to help protect their families from becoming victims of violent crime. I strongly recommend that the General Assembly appropriate the resources needed for the Department of Public Safety to create and maintain the Violent Offender registry.
Thank you. I sincerely hope you will enact this important legislation.

Sincerely,
